Job Responsibilities
The District Defender at the Trial Office serves as the managing attorney, overseeing a dedicated team of attorneys. This position holds significant responsibilities, which include:

- Management and Leadership: Provide leadership and direction to a team of attorneys and support staff, oversee case assignments, and foster a collaborative work environment.
- Caseload Management: Manage a caseload of serious and complex cases, administer case assignments, and ensure timely and effective client representation in court proceedings. Review and provide guidance on legal strategies, briefs, and pleadings.
- Employee Performance Monitoring: Conduct regular evaluations of attorney performance, address performance issues, and provide necessary training or resources. Recognize and reward exceptional performance.
- Hiring and Development: Participate in the recruitment and selection of new staff attorneys and support personnel. Oversee onboarding, provide mentoring, and support professional development opportunities.
- Policy Development and Implementation: Develop and implement office policies and procedures, stay informed about changes in laws and regulations, and communicate and enforce office policies and standards.

Education and Experience Information
- Licensed to practice law in the State of Missouri or eligible to transfer a bar license from another state.
- Experience with serious and complex litigation.
- Demonstrated leadership and management experience, preferably in a legal setting.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to delegate tasks effectively and manage priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to the mission of the **Members Only**'s office and providing zealous advocacy for indigent clients.
- Knowledge of criminal law, procedure, and rules applicable in Missouri.
- Experience in hiring, training, and supervising legal professionals.

Salary Information
This is a full-time salaried position with an annual salary of $108,240. The successful candidate will receive competitive compensation and State of Missouri benefits, including a defined pension plan, generous amounts of leave and holiday time, and eligibility for health insurance coverage.
