A law firm seeks an associate to join its Richmond, VA office within the Government, Regulatory & Investigations practice. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated interest in defending enforcement actions, conducting internal investigations, and providing compliance advice. The associate will manage a variety of litigation and enforcement matters and will have significant client interaction. The position requires the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Duties:

  • Represent clients in government enforcement actions and white-collar defense matters.
  • Conduct internal investigations on behalf of clients across various industries.
  • Provide compliance advice and legal counsel to organizations navigating regulatory landscapes.
  • Manage a high volume of litigation and enforcement cases, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
  • Engage in client interactions, including regular communication and updates on legal matters.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and experts to develop creative, strategic defense approaches.
  • Prepare legal documents, including motions, briefs, and internal reports.
  • Contribute to the firm’s growth by assisting with new business development efforts.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice law in Virginia (or ability to join the Virginia Bar promptly).
  • 1-2 years of litigation experience in private practice, judicial clerkship, criminal defense, or prosecution.
  • Proven ability to handle complex legal matters with minimal supervision.
  • Strong writing and analytical skills, capable of drafting and presenting compelling legal arguments.

Education:

  • JD from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admitted to practice law in Virginia (or ability to become a member of the Virginia Bar).

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of government enforcement actions and regulatory issues.
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and communication abilities.
  • Ability to think creatively and develop innovative legal strategies.
  • High attention to detail and the capacity to manage multiple cases simultaneously.
  • Effective at building client relationships and providing excellent client service.
