Job Responsibilities:
Law clerks at the organization will have the opportunity to engage in various legal activities under the supervision of staff attorneys. Their responsibilities include conducting client interviews and preparing initial case statements, preparing clients for trials, and obtaining discovery and other evidence. Clerks will also write briefs and other legal memoranda, participate in community outreach and education, assist self-represented litigants, represent clients at administrative hearings and state court hearings/trials, participate in broader impact litigation, and draft writs of mandamus to Superior Court and California appellate court.
Education and Experience Information:
To be eligible for a law clerk position, candidates must have completed the first year of law school. The organization seeks individuals with a passion for social justice and poverty-related issues, as well as a sensitivity to working with people from diverse backgrounds. While not required, it is encouraged for students to have completed the required Evidence Course to become certified by the California State Bar to represent clients in court.
