Job Title: Special Advisor on Race and Wrongful Conviction

Job Responsibilities:
The Special Advisor on Race and Wrongful Conviction will serve as an advisor, thought leader, expert, and in-house resource on racial justice, equity, bias, and discrimination, especially concerning the criminal legal system and wrongful convictions. They will set the vision for this work and collaborate with organization staff to ensure that the organization's efforts are guided by rigorous historical, academic, forensic, and social science research. Key responsibilities include:

- Providing ongoing expertise, thought leadership, and strategic vision to program directors and executive leadership on racial bias and discrimination in the criminal legal system.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with organizations, academics, researchers, attorneys, and other experts specializing in racial bias and discrimination.
- Monitoring state and federal court decisions addressing racial bias and discrimination in criminal justice and wrongful convictions.
- Keeping abreast of emerging legal, historical, forensic, and social science research on racial bias and its impact on decision-making in the criminal legal system.
- Providing regular updates, trainings, and resources to organization staff regarding relevant research.
- Producing publications to disseminate original research.
- Collaborating on cases, campaigns, and strategies involving race, racial bias/discrimination, and wrongful convictions.
- Attending relevant trainings, conferences, and conventions to bring new learnings into the organization's work.

Education and Experience Information:
- A JD or Master’s degree in a relevant field is required, with a preference for a JD.
- At least 12 years of progressive responsibility in academia, policy advocacy, and/or litigation related to racial justice, civil rights, and criminal justice.
- A sophisticated understanding of racial injustice in America, its history, and manifestations.
- Demonstrated history of collaboration with communities of color on race, criminal justice, and civil rights.
- Proven project and time management skills, including organization, attention to detail, and follow-through.
- Experience in creative problem-solving, strategic flexibility, and good judgment.
- Experience with strategic planning.
- Willingness to travel as necessary for speaking events, meetings, and conferences.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the .

Salary Information:
The salary range for this position is $151,725 - $178,500, commensurate with experience.

The position requires approximately 40 hours of work per week, with a hybrid model of in-office and remote work.
