Job Title: Senior Consultant, Personal Property Tax
Job Responsibilities:
The Senior Consultant in Personal Property Tax is tasked with ensuring the timely preparation of property tax renditions and filings according to state property tax regulations. The role involves working closely with the team and/or the client’s existing tax department to properly classify assets and analyze assessment notices against rendition filings for accuracy. The Senior Consultant is responsible for creating positive team member experiences, which lead to excellent client service and drive revenue and profit for the company. Key responsibilities include:
- Responding to client inquiries and requests from tax authorities.
- Demonstrating a full understanding of the annual property tax cycle for assigned personal property portfolios.
- Building awareness and understanding of jurisdictional rules and filing requirements.
- Preparing and filing tax returns in accordance with jurisdictional requirements.
- Collecting, reviewing, and fully understanding client-provided data.
- Inspecting properties and preparing necessary reports as deemed necessary by management.
- Analyzing assessment notices to determine potential assessment reductions.
- Applying software knowledge to efficiently work with client data.
- Possessing knowledge in assessment review, appeal determination, tax bill administration, and the three valuation approaches: cost, sales comparison, and income.
- Handling appeals and monitoring the appeals process.
- Attending client status calls and meetings, providing supporting data and findings to the leadership team.
- Working effectively with clients by understanding their industry and inquiring about trends and processes to gain a full understanding of their core business.
- Participating in recruiting efforts and interacting and communicating effectively with team members.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Engineering, Economics, Real Estate, Business Management, Public Administration, MIS/Entrepreneurship, International Business, or another relevant degree, with an MBA, MST, or JD being advantageous. Candidates with appropriate valuation designations are preferred. The role requires one to three years of audit or tax-related experience. The candidate should demonstrate leadership, problem-solving abilities, and strong verbal and written communication skills. The ability to prioritize tasks, work on multiple assignments, manage ambiguity, and work both independently and as part of a team with professionals at all levels is essential.
Computer Skills:
The candidate must have intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Internet navigation and research.
Certificates and Licenses:
A valid driver’s license is required for this position.
