Title: Assistant Attorney General, Health Services Section
Job Responsibilities:
The Assistant Attorney General in the Health Services Section is tasked with providing legal advice and representation to various agencies within the Health and Human Resources Secretariat, with a primary focus on the Department of Health. Key responsibilities include:
- Representing the Department of Health and its subdivisions such as the Offices of Vital Records, Family Health Services, and Emergency Medical Services.
- Assisting with Certificate of Public Need (COPN) and hospital licensing matters as required.
- Offering legal advice on the interpretation of state and federal laws.
- Representing the Department of Health in both state and federal courts.
- Supporting the Section’s lead attorneys in representing the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services, particularly in licensing matters and in litigation involving alleged violations of federal or state laws concerning conditions of confinement.
- Providing backup support to attorneys representing the Department of Health Professions and the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services as needed.
Education and Experience Information:
- The candidate must be a member of the Virginia Bar.
- The candidate should possess excellent analytical, research, and writing abilities.
- Superior oral and written communication and litigation skills are necessary.
- It is preferred that the candidate has at least two years of litigation experience and knowledge of Virginia’s administrative process.
Salary Information:
- The hiring range is commensurate with experience.
- The position falls under Pay Band UG.
