Senator Mitch McConnell's office offers a paid internship program for college students who are residents of Kentucky. This program provides valuable experience and education in a fast-paced office of a national leader. Interns have the opportunity to learn about the legislative process and important issues affecting the state and country.
Internship Responsibilities:
- Interns will be assigned as either legislative or press interns
- Legislative interns will assist staff with researching current legislation and drafting constituent responses
- Press interns will track news and legislation, assist with press events, and draft press releases
- All interns will also perform daily office duties such as sorting mail, making copies, giving tours of the Capitol, and answering phones
Qualifications and Selection:
- Strong scholastic and extracurricular achievements
- Interest in the governmental process
Deadlines:
- Summer Session: February 1st
- Fall Session: June 30th
- Spring Session: October 2nd

The internship program offers three sessions throughout the year - summer, spring, and fall. Summer internships are highly competitive and consist of two six-week sessions. Part-time internships are also available in the Senator's state offices, located in Louisville, Lexington, Fort Wright, Paducah, Bowling Green, and London. These internships are on a volunteer basis and are ideal for students seeking college credit.
