The Governor's Summer Intern – IDR Legal Services is a seasonal position offered by the State of Indiana, one of the largest employers in the state. The internship program is designed to provide college students with real-world experience in their desired field of study, enhancing their marketability upon graduation. The program offers networking opportunities, resume building workshops, and exposure to various state agencies.
The internship is with Indiana Disability Rights (IDR), an organization dedicated to promoting and advancing the rights of individuals with disabilities. The intern will work directly with an attorney and support multiple attorneys based on their interest, incoming service requests, and team needs.
The hourly rate for this position is for those without a bachelor's degree and for those with a bachelor's degree or higher. The location of the internship is in Indianapolis.
The essential functions of the role include identifying and executing one major project related to agency needs and the intern's academic area of study, analyzing data and providing recommendations, and collaborating with other stakeholders to enhance the quality of projects. The intern will also have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in communicating with clients, researching legal and policy issues, drafting legal documents, and attending meetings and committees related to disability policy.
Applicants must be currently enrolled in, or have recently graduated from, an accredited law school and have completed at least one year of legal education. They should also have a passion for promoting and upholding civil rights, strong analytical and communication skills, and the ability to maintain confidentiality. Applicants with lived disability experience are preferred.
This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven-month continuous period.
