Job Title: Research Counsel II
Salary: $75,546 - $113,318 per year

Role Summary:

- Develop, implement, and organize education and training programs for judges and court related personnel
- Conduct legal research and propose relevant judicial and legal topics for continuing judicial education seminars
- Advise committees and task forces and provide technical assistance on procedural and statutory concerns
- Required to travel to education and training conferences throughout the state

Department Summary:

The Mississippi Judicial College (MJC) provides training and education to Mississippi judges and conducts 18-20 conferences throughout the state each year.

Key Responsibilities:

- Develop, evaluate, and implement education and training programs for judges and court related personnel
- Supervise research associates
- Conduct legal research and draft handbooks and publications for use by judges and court related personnel
- Propose relevant judicial and legal topics for continuing judicial education seminars
- Work with program manager to develop agendas and instructional content for seminars
- Prepare written materials and presentations for speakers and participants at seminars
- Provide technical assistance to judges and court related personnel
- Lecture, serve as panelist, and moderate discussions at seminars
- Advise task forces and committees on judicial topics and issues
- Draft court rules and manuals
- Lecture at University and law school classes
- Assist court related governmental agencies with judicial and legal research for grant projects

Essential Functions:

- Manage and maintain a good working relationship with institutional clients
- Investigate and prepare materials for litigation matters
- Effectively manage multiple legal matters with competing deadlines
- Assist in the preparation and delivery of trainings for institutional employees
- Provide direct policy making input and advice on matters related to University activities

Minimum Education/Experience:

- Juris Doctorate degree
- Admission to practice law in the State of Mississippi
- 2 years of related experience preferred
