Job Title: Legal Advisor I
Job Responsibilities:
- Utilize in-depth legal knowledge in commercial business insurance, civil litigation, and bankruptcy matters to support the Accounts Receivable Legal Director and Cash Operations executives.
- Assist the Accounts Receivable Legal Director in overseeing and monitoring the legal staff, which includes drafting and updating process documents, cross-training team members, and coordinating team workflow patterns.
- Manage incoming lawsuit requests from outside counsel and assign new cases to legal staff.
- Review and approve legal expenses within established cost guidelines on civil cases.
- Liaise with outside counsel on case preparation, research, review, settlement discussions, and negotiations.
- Oversee final reconciliation and write-off processes for matters deemed fully closed.
- Interact with various business partners within the company, including Operations, Claims, Collections, Underwriting, and Premium Audit teams, for case-specific research, information gathering, witness preparation, and settlement discussions.
- Prepare data reports (weekly, monthly, quarterly, annually) to interpret civil litigation case statuses and translate analyzed data for Cash Operations executives.
- Engage in special projects as assigned.
Education and Experience Information:
- A is required.
- Ten or more years of demonstrated experience in either a corporate or law firm setting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly in data analytics and advanced-level Excel reporting.
- Experience with legal operations and legal technology such as matter management software.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and process improvement skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Superior interpersonal skills and capability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be highly organized, exercise critical thinking, and sound judgment.
- Capability to manage multiple competing priorities in a high-volume, deadline-oriented setting.
- Ability to handle confidential information discreetly.
- Flexibility to work additional hours as needed.
- Insurance experience is preferred but not required.
