Job Responsibilities:
As an Insurance Defense Trial Attorney at the company, the primary responsibilities include representing the company and its policyholders in complex civil litigation matters. This involves handling claims for monetary damages or compensation for personal injuries or property damage with mid to high-level exposure. The role requires managing the entire legal process, from investigation and discovery through trial preparation, court proceedings, and negotiating settlements as needed. The attorney will develop legal strategies, research applicable laws, and share these strategies with claims representatives and insured clients. Maintaining good relationships with claims representatives and clients is crucial, and the attorney may also conduct training sessions for the legal, claims, or other departments. Additionally, the role involves drafting legal documents, pleadings, motions, and opinions, and providing guidance to junior attorneys, paralegals, or law clerks.
Education and Experience Information:
The candidate must possess a Juris Doctor (JD) degree and be a member of the Arizona Bar. A minimum of five years of successful experience as a first chair in litigation is required, with a strong preference for those with at least ten years of experience in independently handling mid to high-level complexity cases in insurance defense. Special licenses to practice before boards or federal courts are preferred.
Skills and Knowledge:
The role demands a talent for cultivating strong working relationships with internal and external partners, detail-oriented and analytical thinking, and persuasive oral and written communication skills. A broad knowledge of insurance law and familiarity with the latest developments in the practice of law are essential. The attorney should have a process-oriented mindset, with a proven ability to meet deadlines and stay organized. Proficiency with technologies that reduce costs and facilitate the practice of law and remote work is also required.
Salary Information:
The position is full-time, with a minimum salary of USD $100, per year and a maximum salary of USD $173, per year. The typical starting salary ranges from $120,000 to $135,000. The role includes 20 days of flexible time off annual accrual. The salary is determined by factors such as skills, experience, education, certifications, and location. The position may include commission and/or bonus earnings based on multiple factors as set forth in the compensation plan.
Additional Information:
This role is primarily remote, except for required appearances, and the candidate must be admitted and reside in Arizona. The company offers a comprehensive benefits package, including eligible performance bonuses, personal holidays, a pension plan, and a 401(k) plan with matching contributions. The company is committed to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace and supports employees through Employee Resource Groups (ERGs). The company is an equal opportunity employer and does not tolerate discrimination based on race, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, age, disability, veteran status, pregnancy, genetic information, or any basis prohibited by federal, state, or local law.
