Job Title: Sales & Use Tax Practice Leader - Remote Eligible
Job Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary leader for sales and use tax matters, offering strategic direction, technical guidance, and mentorship across various team levels.
- Expand the established practice by nurturing existing client relationships, identifying new business opportunities, and enhancing the company’s reputation in the market.
- Lead business development initiatives, including proposal development, networking, speaking engagements, and creating go-to-market strategies.
- Manage and develop a talented team by supporting career growth, providing regular coaching and feedback, and fostering a collaborative and continuously improving environment.
- Direct and oversee sales and use tax consulting engagements, covering nexus evaluations, taxability analyses, liability quantification, audit support, voluntary disclosures, process optimization, refund claims, transaction advisory, and more.
- Oversee all aspects of engagement execution, including initial scoping, budgeting, staffing, project management, and client communication.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments, issue internal alerts, and communicate with clients to keep stakeholders informed and agile.
- Contribute to thought leadership through authored content, webinars, presentations, and training sessions.
- Participate in regular professional development activities to remain at the forefront of state and local tax trends.
Education and Experience Information:
- Bachelor’s degree is required; Master of Taxation, MBA, JD, or LLM in Taxation are highly preferred.
- Requires 12+ years of progressive experience in state and local sales and use tax, including experience as a Senior Manager.
- Must hold a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, sales/use tax certification (CMI), JD, or LLM in Taxation.
- Deep understanding of multistate sales/use tax matters is essential, along with the ability to deliver clear, actionable guidance to clients.
- Experience in core areas of sales/use tax, including nexus and taxability analysis, VDAs, audit management, process improvement, exposure mitigation, transaction advisory, and recovery strategies.
- Proven success in business development, identifying client needs, crafting solutions, and building long-term relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to build and grow a successful practice or book of business, showcasing initiative, strategic thinking, and sustainable client engagement.
- Strong leadership skills, committed to team development, mentorship, and fostering a culture of accountability and collaboration.
- Ability to lead with vision and purpose, set priorities, build consensus, and inspire others.
- Bonus experience in areas like gross receipts/excise taxes, negotiated incentives, property tax, or unclaimed property.
Salary Information:
Compensation ranges from $180,000 to $255,000. The company's compensation philosophy emphasizes competitive and equitable pay, complying with all local/state regulations regarding displaying ranges. Final compensation decisions depend on factors such as geography, experience, education, skills, and internal equity.
