ATTORNEY POSITION

Job Title: Attorney

Job Responsibilities:
The attorney will be responsible for providing legal representation and advocacy for youth aged 12-24 who are unstably housed in King County. Key responsibilities include:

- Conducting onsite intake for youth at risk of homelessness at shelters, drop-in centers, and schools, which may include phone and email intakes.
- Drafting and filing pleadings in various legal matters, representing clients in court, and providing legal advice and mediation.
- Addressing civil legal issues such as orders of protection, dependencies, minor guardianships, Special Immigrant Juvenile petitions, CHINS petitions, housing access, eviction prevention, record-sealing, legal financial obligations, name and gender marker changes, emancipations, navigating child welfare systems, and public benefits.
- Investigating cases, conducting legal research, preparing litigation strategies, and litigating evidentiary hearings.
- Collaborating with community service providers, school staff, shelter staff, court staff, and the organization team to improve service delivery and local adaptation.
- Presenting training for community providers, school staff, shelter staff, and youth.
- Participating in case reviews, team meetings, staff meetings, and retreats.
- Mentoring and supporting novice attorneys.
- Tracking hours, expenses, case data, and ensuring accurate updates in the case management system.
- Engaging in equity and systemic racism trainings and discussions.
- Providing services in locations where youth feel safe and accessible.

Education and Experience Information:
- Applicants must be a member of the Washington State Bar Association or qualify for admission by motion from another state under Washington State Court rule APR 3(c)(1).
- At least 3 years of attorney experience is highly preferred.
- Experience in dependencies, minor guardianships, CHINS/ARY/Becca proceedings, juvenile defense, or working with survivors of gender-based violence is highly valued.
- Litigation experience and experience working with youth and/or children are highly preferred.
- Fluency in English and Spanish is highly valued.

Salary Information:
- The salary range for this full-time, salaried position is $80,000 - $110,000, depending on experience, based on a 10-year scale as a practicing attorney.
- Spanish speakers are eligible for an additional $5,000 annually beyond their set salary.

- Work-related travel is compensated at the Federal reimbursement rate.
