Kinship Care / Family Law Attorney

Job Responsibilities:
The primary responsibilities of the Kinship Care / Family Law Attorney include:

- Providing counsel and advice to family violence survivors through the Family Law Hotline on a range of family law legal options such as divorce, custody, visitation, child support, paternity-defense, legitimation, name changes, protective orders, and related areas like financial benefits, housing, and educational legal assistance.
- Offering civil legal representation to survivors of family violence, with cases potentially extending to state, federal, and administrative forums as directed by the supervisor or the managing attorney.
- Referring clients to partners or resources for immigration assistance, including T-Visas, U-Visas, and VAWA applications.
- Directing clients to other holistic services including safety planning, shelter, law enforcement assistance, victim assistance, counseling, benefits, and community services to aid in safety and economic security.
- Maintaining records and data in the case management system for research, development, and project reporting purposes.
- Assisting in the recruitment and support of pro bono attorneys to aid survivors with their legal needs.
- Facilitating presentations to bar associations, attorneys, and community partners to promote the development and participation in holistic civil legal services for survivors.
- Participating in statewide and national meetings and conferences as allowed by budgetary and grant requirements.
- Supporting the application of technology in the delivery of legal services and contributing to policy recommendations to expand access to civil legal services for survivors.
- Providing multicultural outreach to inform survivors about the legal services available to them through Georgia Legal Services.
- Supporting grant applications related to family law, including administrative assistance, drafting, monitoring, managing budgets, reporting, and supervising grant attorneys and staff as needed.

Education and Experience Information:
Candidates must be graduates of an accredited law school and current members of the Georgia Bar. Experience working with low-income individuals and a commitment to social justice are required. Additional requirements include:

- Willingness and ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Computer literacy, including familiarity with email, Excel, Word, SharePoint, LegalServer, and other relevant programs.
- Reliable transportation and a valid Georgia driver's license, as travel is a part of the position.
- Spanish language skills are highly valued.
- Demonstrated interest or experience in working with low-income clients on poverty law issues.
- Ability to work with diverse populations and perspectives.
- Excellent oral advocacy, research, and writing skills.
- Attention to detail, self-motivation, creativity, and teamwork abilities.

Salary Information:
The salary for this position is $65,000+ depending on experience. The organization offers generous fringe benefits, including paid holidays, paid time off (including parental leave and a birthday holiday), health, life, and long and short-term disability insurance. Educational loan reimbursement is available up to $600 per month after a $65 per month deductible. A 403B plan with a 3% match is also provided. Georgia Bar dues and CLE expenses are covered. The organization offers a hybrid work schedule allowing staff to work remotely for two days a week, subject to management approval and a probationary employment period.
