Job Title: Fall 2025 Law Clerk
Job Responsibilities:
The Fall 2025 Law Clerk position is a volunteer opportunity within the **Members Only** (OPD), specifically in the Parental Defense Division. Law clerks will assist attorneys in providing client-centered, team-based representation to parents whose children are at risk of being taken by the government. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Engaging in client contact and witness preparation
- Conducting investigations
- Preparing for trials
- Performing significant research and writing
- Collaborating with attorneys, investigators, paralegals, social workers, and other support staff to ensure comprehensive advocacy
Education and Experience Information:
This position is open to current law school students or recent law school graduates. It offers hands-on experience to assist in the representation of OPD clients and is particularly beneficial for those pursuing careers in public defense or family law.
Salary Information:
The Fall 2025 Law Clerk position is unpaid. However, OPD supports externs seeking academic credits for their work and sponsors grant or other outside funding applications where applicable.
Application Process:
- Applications are accepted on a rolling basis for the fall semester (September-December), spring semester (January-May), and summer (May-August).
- Candidates must submit a completed application form, resume, cover letter, list of four professional references, a writing sample not exceeding 15 pages, and an undergraduate transcript via email.
- The deadline for Fall 2025 applications is August 1, 2025.
- The position requires a minimum commitment of 10 weeks, starting by September 2, 2025.
- Applicants should indicate their preferred office locations within Maryland, with consideration that only Montgomery County and Baltimore City offices are accessible via public transportation.
