Job Title: Civil Practice Legal Intern - Fall 2025
Job Responsibilities:
The Legal Practice Legal Interns are integral to the mission of the organization's Civil Practice department, which aims to assist low-income New Yorkers by addressing critical needs such as housing, healthcare, food, and income. Interns work under the direct supervision of experienced attorneys and are involved in various legal tasks to enhance family and community stability.
Interns will have the opportunity to:
- Draft legal documents including motions, pleadings, memoranda of law, and affidavits.
- Conduct comprehensive legal research.
- Attend court and administrative hearings alongside attorneys.
- Assist with client interviews.
- Participate in intern training sessions, webinars, and Continuing Legal Education (CLE) relevant to their internship.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission of the department.
Education and Experience Information:
- Must be a current 2L or 3L law school student in good standing.
- Relevant clinical program or work experience is preferred but not required.
- Demonstrated commitment to serving racially and socioeconomically oppressed communities.
- Ability to work collaboratively and collegially with all staff members.
- Capable of managing multiple tasks and deadlines while thinking critically.
- Fluency in languages other than English, particularly Spanish, is advantageous but not required.
Salary Information:
This internship is non-paid. However, eligible interns have the opportunity to receive a $1,000 stipend from the Howard Rossbach fund, established to support interns demonstrating financial need and lacking funding for their internship. The stipend is awarded through a lottery system to 4-5 interns annually.
To be considered for this stipend, interns must:
- Be enrolled as a degree-seeking undergraduate or graduate student at any accredited institution.
- Complete the Howard Rossbach Internship Stipend Form when submitting their internship application.
- Be accepted to participate in an internship program at the organization.
- Demonstrate financial need.
- Submit a statement reflecting a strong interest in working with the organization upon graduation.
