This is a regular full-time position with a salary range of $85, - $123, annually.
Position Summary:
The Deputy District Attorney will be responsible for performing professional legal work in the prosecution of cases in County Court, acting on behalf of the District Attorney and representing the People of the State of Colorado in court proceedings. This role will handle a significant docket of misdemeanor and traffic cases, including DUIs, domestic violence, assault, and careless driving cases.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and conduct jury trials on misdemeanor and traffic offenses, and serve as co-counsel on felony cases when appropriate
- Review criminal case files, including police reports, evidence, witness statements, criminal histories, and victim input, and determine appropriate plea offers
- Present evidence, argue motions, conduct jury selection, cross-examination of witnesses, and make opening and closing arguments in court
- Perform legal research and writing for legal briefs, motions, and pleadings
- Assist victims of crime through the criminal justice system and communicate with victims and witnesses involved in cases
- Serve on call to provide legal advice to law enforcement agencies and answer questions from the public
- Other related duties as required
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school
- Licensed to practice law in the State of Colorado
- Ability to obtain a valid Colorado Driver's License
- Must pass a criminal background check

- Strong knowledge of Colorado criminal case law statutes and relevant case law
- Commitment to protecting the public and making the criminal justice system better
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills to manage a heavy caseload
- Proficiency in legal research and writing for successful prosecution of cases
- Strong critical thinking skills and ability to think on one's feet in a high-stress environment
- Excellent courtroom presentation skills
- Effective communication, both oral and written
- Ability to work independently and meet statutory deadlines
- Proficiency in computer case management software programs
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, supervisors, court officials, law enforcement, and the public
