Job Title: Counsel/Sr. Counsel, NBCU News Group
Job Responsibilities:
The Counsel or Sr. Counsel will serve as a news content and media lawyer for the News Group, primarily supporting the newsrooms of Telemundo Network and the Telemundo Station Group on Spanish-language content, with additional responsibilities for NBC News, MSNBC, and CNBC. Key responsibilities include:
- Advising editorial leadership and journalists across platforms, including linear television, streaming, digital, social, and audio, in support of daily news programming, commentary, investigative reports, documentaries, entertainment, lifestyle, true crime, financial journalism, and unscripted programming.
- Conducting pre-broadcast and pre-publication reviews.
- Advising on newsgathering and access issues.
- Counseling on copyright and other intellectual property matters.
- Advising on and responding to pre- and post-publication threats and challenges.
- Responding to subpoenas and other third-party requests for information.
- Crafting and delivering legal training for the newsroom.
- Advising on legal and regulatory issues related to sponsored editorial content, e-commerce, and elections.
- Implementing and counseling on News Group policies that protect integrity, accuracy, and independence.
- Monitoring legal developments affecting the press and freedom of speech.
- Partnering with specialist lawyers across the Legal Department, including on news-related litigation.
- Contributing to an inclusive, collaborative, and creative team culture.
Education and Experience Information:
Basic Requirements:
- Spanish-language fluency.
- Law degree required.
- Member in good standing of GA State Bar or registered as in-house counsel.
- 5+ years of legal experience for Counsel or 7+ years for Sr. Counsel, including experience advising news clients on media law and publication issues.

- Ability to counsel journalists in a fast-paced environment, partner with journalists to deliver compelling, diverse, and visually engaging stories, and provide clear, succinct, and practical legal advice that enables broadcast and publication.

Salary Information:
This position offers a salary range of $140,000 - $170,000 for Counsel and $165,000 - $200,000 for Sr. Counsel, with eligibility for bonuses and long-term incentives. The position is also eligible for company-sponsored benefits, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and a variety of other discounts and perks.
Additional Information:
This position is designated as hybrid, generally requiring a minimum of three days per week in the office.
