Job Title: Principal Law Clerk to Judge

Job Responsibilities:
Principal Law Clerks to Judge are tasked with a range of responsibilities primarily centered around supporting a judge or judges with intricate legal matters. Key duties include:

- Researching and analyzing uniquely intricate, complex, and sensitive legal issues and questions.
- Preparing memoranda with recommendations based on legal research and analysis.
- Drafting various legal documents including opinions, decisions, orders, jury charges, correspondence, and other written materials.
- Conferring with lawyers involved in complex legal proceedings and reviewing legal documents filed in connection with such proceedings.
- Reviewing and verifying legal citations to ensure accuracy.
- Advising the judge on legal issues and conferring with them to provide insights and recommendations.
- Conducting conferences with attorneys and other parties involved in legal actions to clarify issues that need resolution or to facilitate case settlements.

Education and Experience Information:
The position of Principal Law Clerk to Judge requires:

- Admission to the New York State Bar.
- A minimum of two (2) years of service in the Associate Law Clerk to Judge title; or
- A minimum of five (5) years of relevant legal experience, which may include up to 18 months of pre-admission experience.

Salary Information:
The base salary for the Principal Law Clerk to Judge position is $130,061, with an additional location pay of $4,920.

Additional Information:
The position is classified as Exempt/Confidential and is personally appointed by the judge or judges whom the law clerk serves, operating at their pleasure. This particular role is assigned to the Hon. Patsy Gouldborne in the Bronx County Supreme Court, Civil Term.
