Job Title: Legal Intern, Summer

Position Summary:
- Exciting and challenging internship opportunity for law students who have completed their second year of law school
- Must have completed a course in evidence prior to the internship
- Placed in one of thirteen offices located throughout Alaska
- Students can receive a permit to appear in court and represent clients in misdemeanor matters under the state's student practice rule

Responsibilities:
- Represent clients in court, including bail hearings, arraignments, and misdemeanor sentencing
- May also represent clients in evidentiary hearings, trials, juvenile delinquency hearings, and other hearings
- Negotiate cases, visit clients in jail, write motions, and assist staff attorneys as needed
- May also work on civil cases, such as child in need of aid, delinquency, and mental health commitment proceedings

Qualifications:
- Completed second year of law school (or half the coursework required towards graduation)
- Completed course in evidence
- Strong interest in criminal defense and/or civil rights
- Ability to commit to a 12-week work period
- Willingness to work in any of the thirteen office locations in Alaska

Salary Information:
- Unpaid internship
- Round-trip airfare provided
