Job Title: Immigration Intern - Unpaid

Job Responsibilities:
The Immigration Intern will play a crucial role in supporting the Immigration Program of the organization. The primary responsibilities include:

- Assisting immigration staff in handling paperwork, record-keeping, and filing.
- Notifying clients about matters related to their immigration applications via telephone, email, or mail.
- Conducting initial eligibility assessments of potential applicants for various immigration benefits.
- Supporting the accurate completion of application forms for clients seeking adjustment of status, citizenship, family reunification, and other immigration benefits.
- Assisting with data entry and reporting using various software programs.
- Helping with research, data collection, and grant writing for the Immigration Department.
- Providing additional support to clients with necessary procedures, such as requests for evidence and follow-up advocacy.
- Offering general administrative and office support as needed.

Education and Experience Information:
The position is open to undergraduate students, graduate students, or recent college graduates. While a legal background or previous immigration experience is not required, the role may particularly interest law students or those pursuing careers in immigration-related fields. Key qualifications include:

- Strong intercultural communication skills and the ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and across language barriers.
- Willingness to learn and become familiar with new software programs.
- Ability to handle sensitive client information confidentially.
- Strong organizational skills, time management, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Comfort in high-stress environments with adaptability, flexibility, and patience.
- Familiarity with the Windows operating system and confidence in basic computer skills such as word processing, email, and data entry.
- Fluency in English is required, with additional fluency in languages such as Arabic, Burmese, Dari, Farsi, French, Kinyarwanda, Kiswahili, Pashto, Somali, Spanish, Ukrainian, or Urdu being desirable but not mandatory.
- Willingness to adhere to organization volunteer and workplace policies.

Salary Information:
This is an unpaid internship position. However, it may be considered for school credit depending on the policies and requirements of the intern's educational institution.

Additional Information:
The position requires a minimum commitment of 15 hours per week during office hours (Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm) with a regular schedule and a minimum commitment of four months.

Reports to:
Managing Attorney, Immigration Accredited Representatives, and Immigration Assistants.
