Getting Certified:

- Available for law students who have completed their second year of 60 credit hours at an accredited law school
- Eligible for certification under Colorado’s student practice rule
- Must submit Certificate of Eligibility Form to Colorado Supreme Court Attorney Registration Office

Certified intern positions are available for law students who have completed their second year of law school and are eligible for certification under Colorado's student practice rule. The internship offers the opportunity to represent clients in court and receive intensive courtroom advocacy experience under the supervision of a licensed public defender. Summer certified interns participate in a weeklong training program and are assigned a caseload of misdemeanor, traffic, or juvenile delinquency cases. The Office of the State Public Defender (OSPD) offers 24 paid positions each summer for certified interns, with an additional 30+ unpaid spots available. The appellate division also offers paid summer internships.
