Job Title: Juvenile Rights Practice Legal Intern - Fall 2025
Job Responsibilities:
**Members Only**'s Juvenile Rights Practice (JRP) is offering non-paid internship positions in its trial offices and Special Litigation and Law Reform unit for the Fall 2025 term. The role is designed for law students with a dedication to children's rights and juvenile justice. Legal interns will have the opportunity to work closely with JRP attorneys as part of an interdisciplinary team that includes social workers, paralegals, and investigators. The primary responsibility of JRP trial attorneys is to provide legal representation to children aged 0 to 21 who are involved in New York City Family Courts on matters such as child welfare, Persons-in-Need-of-Supervision (PINS), juvenile delinquency, adolescent offender issues, and termination of parental rights.
Interns will operate under the direct supervision of Juvenile Rights Practice attorneys. Supervision is mandatory, and interns are required to attend training sessions and practice-wide webinars that are relevant to their internship assignments.
Education and Experience:
- Applicants must be current 2L law school students in good standing.
- Relevant clinical program or work experience is preferred.
- A demonstrated commitment to children's issues and juvenile justice is essential.
- Candidates should possess the ability to effectively interact with children, adolescents, and family members.
- The ability to work collaboratively in a high-volume practice is required.
- A demonstrated commitment and interest in serving racially and socioeconomically oppressed communities is necessary.
Salary Information:
This internship position does not offer a salary. However, there is an opportunity for eligible interns to receive a $1,000 stipend from the Howard Rossbach fund. This fund was established in memory of Judge J. Howard Rossbach, who served as Attorney-in-Chief of **Members Only** from 1950-1952 and 1953-1955. The stipend is intended to support 4-5 interns annually who demonstrate financial need and lack funding for their internship at **Members Only**. Interns who wish to be considered for this stipend must meet certain eligibility criteria, including enrollment as a degree-seeking undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited institution, completion of the Howard Rossbach Internship Stipend Form, acceptance into an internship program at **Members Only**, demonstration of financial need, and submission of a statement reflecting a strong interest in working at Legal Aid upon graduation.
