The Tax Senior, Core Tax Services plays a crucial role in the tax department of a company. They are responsible for handling tax compliance, research, consulting, and strategy development for clients. The role requires strong analytical and communication skills, as well as the ability to work well in a team environment. The job also involves supervisory responsibilities, as the Tax Senior may be in charge of managing and reviewing the work of junior associates. The salary for this position varies depending on location and experience, but typically ranges from $75,000 to $115,000 per year.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure clients comply with all applicable tax laws while minimizing their tax and reporting burdens
- Manage tax projects by planning and coordinating the tax process
- Conduct detailed reviews of tax returns and raise potential tax issues
- Identify when research is needed and report findings clearly and concisely
- Apply Firm and professional standards for tax preparation
- Correctly and proactively apply policies and standards regarding tax accruals
- Assist with developing and implementing tax strategies for clients
- Introduce and develop new ideas to improve client's financial position
- Mentor and supervise junior associates
- Provide performance feedback and training to junior associates
- Delegate work effectively and efficiently
- Train other team members on tax processes and procedures
- Document all significant tax positions in accordance with Firm policies
- Collaborate with team members to gather relevant information for controversy work
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics (or Bachelor's degree in a different field with CPA certification)
- Master's degree in Accountancy or Taxation preferred
- 2+ years of prior relevant tax experience or experience in public accounting, private industry accounting, or consulting/professional services
- Industry expertise in one or more tax specialties preferred
- Basic supervisory experience preferred
- CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a . jurisdiction), or Enrolled Agent (EA) preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and tax research databases
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work well in a team environment
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- Knowledge of tax compliance processes and software

- California: $84,000 - $110,000
- Colorado: $80,000 - $85,000
- Illinois: $80,000 - $93,000
- Maryland: $85,000 - $90,000
- Minnesota: $75,000 - $84,000
- NYC/Long Island/Westchester: $90,000 - $115,000
- Washington: $81,900 - $91,400
- Washington DC: $95,000 - $98,000
