Job Title: Tax Managing Director, Alternative Investments
Job Responsibilities:
The Tax Managing Director in the Alternative Investments practice is responsible for providing tax compliance and consulting services to clients in Venture Capital, Private Equity, Hedge Fund, and Real Estate sectors. Key responsibilities include ensuring compliance with applicable authorities while minimizing clients' tax and reporting burdens, and adhering to company policies and the BDO Tax Quality Manual. The role involves understanding clients' specific circumstances and requirements, preparing necessary filings, and ensuring full compliance. The Tax Managing Director is expected to collect all necessary data for filing, identify and communicate missing items, and utilize company compliance software for efficiency. The position requires effective collaboration with Principals, Senior Managers, Managers, Tax Seniors, and Associates on project completion, delivering high-quality federal, state, and international tax compliance services, leading complex engagements with a team of tax professionals, managing engagements including billing, collections, and budgeting, building and managing client relationships, assisting in developing new clients and opportunities, and documenting client work and conclusions in the client tax file. In terms of tax consulting, the role involves identifying, developing, recommending, and implementing efficient and effective tax strategies. The Tax Managing Director also has supervisory responsibilities, managing teams of Senior Managers, Managers, Tax Seniors, and Associates.
Education and Experience Information:
Education: A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics is required, while a Master’s Degree in Accounting or Taxation is preferred.
Experience: Candidates should have ten or more years of relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting, or consulting/professional services experience. Experience in the Financial Services industry supporting Alternative Investment funds, including Venture Capital, Private Equity, Real Estate, and Hedge Funds, is preferred. Proficiency in the taxation of partnerships is also preferred.
License/Certifications: A CPA or Licensed Attorney, or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent is required. A CFP or Masters in Tax is preferred.
Software: Experience with Microsoft Office Tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook), and Adobe Acrobat is preferred. Experience with tax research databases and proficiency in tax compliance process software is also preferred.
