Job Title: Law Fellow
Job Responsibilities:
- Develop legal expertise in housing, labor and employment, environmental justice, education, and health.
- Assist victims of housing discrimination as part of the Fair Housing and Foreclosure Prevention Program under the guidance of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
- Ensure communities affirmatively further fair housing, focusing on the needs of farmworker communities, unincorporated areas, and underserved areas in California.
- Provide education to first-time homebuyers and existing homeowners, helping low-income rural Californians avoid foreclosure.
- Investigate allegations of discriminatory or predatory lending and foreclosure practices.
- Collaborate with District Attorneys’ Offices to prosecute scammers targeting clients and communities.
- Deliver housing education, community outreach, and legal representation to over 6,000 clients to ensure fair, accessible, and affordable housing practices in rural California.
Education and Experience Information:
- Rising or current third-year law students and recent law graduates are eligible for the fellowship.
- Applicants must demonstrate a strong commitment to working with rural Californians and addressing primary issues affecting their lives.
