Job Title:
Head of Construction Defect Claims
Job Responsibilities:
- Own the development and performance of the Construction Defect (CD) Claim teams, ensuring quality, accuracy, and timely resolution of liability claims with high complexity and/or severity.
- Continuously develop talent by creating opportunities for direct reports to grow and strengthen new skills.
- Monitor team performance, analyze trends to identify root cause problems, escalate issues, or recommend solutions to operational leadership.
- Advocate a culture committed to identifying process efficiencies to continuously improve work completion.
- Demonstrate passion and vision towards a highly effective and engaged employee culture, select top talent, deliver continuous coaching, recognize employees to reinforce service excellence, and hold others accountable for team development.
- Advocate for claims customer service excellence by understanding and exceeding stakeholder expectations.
- Identify changes in claim best practices and workflows to drive high-quality outcomes, and develop training solutions to embed and sustain those practices within the organization.
- Identify changes in technology to support execution of practices and workflows, collaborate with IT counterparts in design, build, and testing of changes.
- Utilize data and analytics for informed decision-making and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with business partners internally and externally to ensure profitable growth.
- Develop coverage acumen and proactively ensure team manages litigation.
Education and Experience Information:
- Significant experience in claims leadership roles within the insurance industry, particularly in Construction Defect claim management.
- Multi-jurisdictional expertise.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
- Advanced degree, including Juris Doctor (.), preferred.
- Ability to manage diverse claims teams across multiple locations.
- Experience in directly managing and guiding a team of Managers responsible for overseeing all aspects of claims.
- Regular participation in claims roundtable discussions focusing on coverage, liability, and damage assessment.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present to senior leadership.
- Leadership skills including planning, organizing, delegating, and developing direct reports.
- Ability to persuade and influence through superior written and oral communications, explaining concepts clearly, challenging ideas effectively, and advocating own viewpoints.
- Possess emotional intelligence and self-awareness.
- Embrace changes and invite feedback related to performance, dealing constructively with criticism.
