Job Title: Tax Senior, Unclaimed Property Tax; State and Local Tax (SALT)
Job Responsibilities:
As a Tax Senior in the Unclaimed Property Tax group, the candidate will play a crucial role in tax engagements, providing state tax consulting and compliance services to a diverse range of clients across various industry sectors. The responsibilities include:
- Collaborating with clients to either complement their in-house unclaimed property team or fully outsource their unclaimed property responsibilities, ensuring tailored service levels.
- Acquiring and applying knowledge related to the assessment, audit, or voluntary disclosure agreement processes.
- Engaging in written and verbal communications with clients, legal counsel, and state representatives to facilitate discussions.
- Tracking client requests and submissions, and assisting with the review of records such as tax documents, accounting records, and policies.
- Conducting data analysis to identify potential risks related to unclaimed property.
- Developing and presenting strategies to clients to mitigate potential unclaimed property exposure.
- Assisting in drafting final deliverables and reports for client and state submission.
- Demonstrating critical thinking skills and the ability to bring order to unstructured problems.
- Utilizing a broad range of tools and techniques to extract insights from current industry or sector trends.
- Reviewing personal work and that of others to ensure quality, accuracy, and relevance.
- Seeking and embracing opportunities that provide exposure to different situations, environments, and perspectives.
- Communicating straightforwardly and in a structured manner when influencing and connecting with others.
Education and Experience Information:
Required:
- The ability to perform job responsibilities within a hybrid work model, requiring US Tax professionals to co-locate in person 2-3 days per week.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in state and local tax, with at least 1 year in Unclaimed Property tax.
- A Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- One of the following active accreditations obtained, in process, or willingness and ability to obtain:
- Licensed CPA in the state of practice/primary office if eligible to sit for the CPA exam.
- If not CPA eligible:
- Licensed attorney
- Enrolled Agent
- Certifications such as CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner)
- The ability to travel up to 10%, on average, based on the work performed and the clients and industries/sectors served.
Preferred:
- An advanced degree such as a Masters of Tax, JD, and/or LLM.
- Previous experience with a Big 4 or large CPA firm.
- Supervisory experience.
Salary Information:
The wage range for this role is influenced by various factors, including skill sets, experience, training, licensure, and certifications, as well as business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate does not account for geographic differentials associated with the position's location. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range, as compensation decisions depend on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $68,180 to $144,300.
