A law firm seeks an experienced In-House Counsel in San Diego, CA. This role offers a senior-level attorney the opportunity to provide comprehensive legal support, focusing on legal ethics, employment law, contract review, and compliance. The ideal candidate will have over seven years of relevant experience, strong judgment, and the ability to balance legal risk with business needs in a dynamic environment.

Duties

  • Provide legal advice on attorney professional responsibility and compliance with state bar regulations.
  • Review, draft, and negotiate various contracts, including vendor agreements and NDAs.
  • Advise on employment law matters such as hiring practices and workplace investigations.
  • Develop and monitor internal policies for legal and regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct internal audits and risk assessments related to ethical issues.
  • Monitor legal developments and advise leadership on potential impacts.
  • Collaborate with HR and operations to address internal matters efficiently.
  • Serve as a liaison to outside counsel and manage external legal resources.
  • Assist with special projects and strategic initiatives as assigned.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in California.
  • 7+ years of experience in legal, compliance, or risk management roles.
  • Strong knowledge of legal ethics, employment law, and contract law.
  • Experience in a law firm or professional services organization preferred.
  • Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP) credential is a plus.
  • Familiarity with legal technology systems preferred.
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.

Education

  • Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active license to practice law in California.
  • Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP) is a plus.
