Manager, SALT - Income Franchise (Asset Management)

Job Responsibilities:
The Manager in the State and Local Tax (SALT) practice is responsible for assisting multi-state companies with various state and local tax issues, including compliance, advising, planning, structuring, and controversies. The role involves working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, providing relevant subject matter and industry knowledge to both internal and external clients. Key responsibilities include reviewing information presented on state income tax returns before, during, and after preparation, researching and drafting technical memoranda or slide decks regarding income, franchise, sales and use tax, and other state and local tax questions. Additionally, the manager aids multi-state companies with state and local tax controversies, which includes preparing clients for discussions with auditors, representing clients at hearings and appeal meetings, and preparing protests. The role also involves supporting audit teams with the review and analysis of state tax-related income and balance sheet items, building and managing client relationships, and supervising, mentoring, and developing staff.

Education and Experience Information:
The position requires a minimum of five years of recent experience in performing tax research, preparing/reviewing state income tax returns for various types of entities (including partnerships and REITs), and providing technical advice on multi-state tax issues. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required. Candidates must hold a CPA, EA, JD/LLM, MTX, or another approved credential listed by the company. Individuals who do not possess at least one of the approved designations/credentials at the commencement of their employment have one year from their date of hire to obtain one. The role requires the ability to foster relationships both internally and with clients, excellent writing, compliance, communication, management, and tax research skills, and a desire to perform in a high-energy team environment.

Salary Information:
The salary range for this position varies depending on the location. For positions in California, the salary ranges from $88,700 to $184,800. The company complies with all local/state regulations regarding displaying salary ranges. Any offered salary is determined based on relevant factors such as the applicant's skills, job responsibilities, prior relevant experience, certain degrees, and certifications, as well as market considerations.
