Overview:
- DOI is the premier conservation agency in the nation, responsible for the legal work of the . Department of the Interior.
- The Office of the Solicitor has nearly 200 practicing attorneys in the headquarters office and over 300 attorneys nationwide.
- The work of DOI, through its offices and bureaus, impacts the lives of millions of people, from national park visitors to students in Indian schools.
Program Details:
- The Legal Internship Program offers practical experience in advising agencies on the legal aspects of their mission and participating in complex civil litigation.
- Interns will conduct legal research on environmental and administrative law issues, as well as Indian law.
- The program also involves resolving appeals under the Freedom of Information Act and working with the Department's Ethics Office.
- Interns may have opportunities to attend hearings and meetings in the Washington, . area.
Salary: Unpaid, but eligible for the Transit Subsidy Benefit Program.
Qualifications:
- Applicants must be students, including undergraduate students enrolled at least half-time, public policy graduate students, law students (first-year, second- or third-year), and law school graduates enrolled in graduate law programs at least half-time.
- All students must be in good academic standing and provide official documentation from their school.
- First-year, first-semester law students may apply after December 1 for internships the following summer.
