Job Title: Deputy Attorney General II-V Felony Trial Unit
Job Responsibilities:
- Prepare, present, and prosecute a range of cases from theft to murder in Delaware Superior Court.
- Work closely with law enforcement, providing legal guidance and investigative support.
- Decide which cases should be prosecuted, resolved with pleas, or resolved with trials.
- Formulate specific plea offers on a case-by-case basis and try cases that are not resolved through pleas.
- Handle a wide variety of criminal cases, engage with the public, and conduct plea negotiations with defense counsel.
- Rotate on-call duties for homicide cases, with overtime pay provided.
- Gain a keen understanding of evidentiary rules, court rules and decorum, and applicable statutes.
- Develop excellent negotiation and trial advocacy skills.
- Evaluate cases to ensure justice for victims, society, and defendants.
- Manage time effectively for competent representation and work-life balance.
- Work hand-in-hand with law enforcement on investigations ranging from low-level misdemeanors to homicides.
- Communicate legal issues in concise and thorough written and oral formats.
- Develop good working relationships with other Deputy Attorneys General, investigators, support staff, court personnel, and external agencies.
Education and Experience Information:
- Membership in the Delaware Bar is required.
- The position offers a career ladder with salary steps based on experience, skills, and the number of years barred.
Salary Information:
- Pay Grade A14 DAG II: Salary Range $87,822/min - $92,106/max
- Pay Grade A16 DAG III: Salary Range $96,997/min - $99,129/max
- Pay Grade A18 DAG IV: Salary Range $106,626/min - $108,737/max
- Pay Grade A20 DAG V: Salary Range $118,238/min - $122,920/max
Additional Information:
- This position is exempt from the State of Delaware Merit System.
- The position is centrally located in historic Dover, Delaware.
- Successful applicants will receive on-the-job training and support from the Kent County leadership team.
- Numerous in-house trainings and opportunities to attend national, regional, and local conferences and seminars are available.
- A satisfactory criminal background check and direct deposit of paychecks are required as conditions of hire.
- Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
