Job Responsibilities:
Commercial Division Law Clerks are assigned to work directly for a Justice in the Commercial Division. The key responsibilities include:
- Drafting decisions and orders.
- Assisting Justices with discovery disputes.
- Assisting with case scheduling and settlement conferences.
- Assisting with the management of the Justice’s case inventory.
- Reviewing and researching evidentiary issues before and during trials.
- Drafting jury instructions and verdict sheets.
- Performing other related duties.
- Research and analysis of complex legal issues.
- Conferring with lawyers in discovery and settlement conferences.
- Arranging the judge's calendar and scheduling meetings and conferences.
- Providing other assistance to the judge in managing and resolving cases.

Education and Experience Information:
- Graduation from an accredited law school is required.
- Admission to the New York State Bar within eighteen months of appointment is necessary.
- Experience in commercial litigation is preferred.
- Excellent writing skills and the ability to draft opinions in complex commercial matters are essential requirements for this position.

Salary Information:
- Base Salary: $84,659
- Location Pay: $4,920

Additional Information:
This position is a non-competitive and temporary role, assigned to Justice Joel M. Cohen at the Supreme Court, New York County - Commercial Division. The position is set to commence in September 2026. The clerkship is initially for one year and is renewable twice at the judge’s discretion. The position is subject to reassignment within the same title depending on the needs of the Unified Court System. All applications received may be used to fill any vacancies in this title that may occur in this court or agency within the next six months.
