Job Title: Staff Attorney (State Domestic Violence)
Job Responsibilities:
- Litigate cases in administrative, state, and federal forums, with a primary focus on domestic violence survivors and kinship caregivers.
- Handle casework that primarily involves domestic violence cases, but also includes kinship cases, elder law cases, and other legal issues affecting domestic violence survivors.
- Draft legal documents including briefs, motions, and memoranda.
- Travel to assigned counties for court appearances and client meetings.
- Conduct community legal education sessions and participate in outreach activities to raise awareness and provide information about legal rights and services.
- Participate in action teams that address and seek solutions for systemic issues affecting clients.
Education and Experience Information:
- Must be a graduate of an accredited law school.
- Must be a current member of the Georgia Bar.
- Experience working with low-income individuals and a commitment to social justice is required.
- Willingness and ability to work collaboratively as part of a team are essential.
- Proficiency in computer literacy, including familiarity with email, Excel, Word, SharePoint, LegalServer, and other relevant programs.
- Reliable transportation and a valid Georgia driver’s license are required.
- Spanish language skills are highly valued.
- Demonstrated interest or experience in working with low-income clients on poverty law issues is important.
- Must possess excellent oral advocacy, research, and writing skills.
- Attention to detail, self-motivation, creativity, and the ability to work with diverse populations are necessary.
Salary Information:
- The salary range is between $58,250 and $77,200, with potential for higher compensation depending on experience and qualifications.
- The program offers generous fringe benefits, including paid holidays, paid time off, parental leave, birthday holiday, health, life, and long-term and short-term disability insurance.
- Educational loan reimbursement is available up to $600 per month after a $65 per month deductible.
- A 403B plan with a 3% match is provided.
- Georgia Bar dues and Continuing Legal Education (CLE) expenses are covered.
- Additional compensation is available for employees who pass the organization's Spanish proficiency test.
- A hybrid work schedule is offered, allowing staff to work two days remotely, subject to management approval and a probationary employment period.
