Job Title: Tax Senior, Unclaimed Property Tax; State and Local Tax (SALT)
Job Responsibilities:
As a Tax Senior in the Unclaimed Property Tax group, you will play a vital role in tax engagements, providing state tax consulting and compliance services to a diverse client base across various industry sectors. Your responsibilities will include:
- Applying the appropriate level of services for each client, whether they need to complement an in-house unclaimed property team or outsource all their unclaimed property responsibilities.
- Gaining knowledge of the assessment, audit, or voluntary disclosure agreement processes.
- Developing written communications and facilitating verbal discussions with clients, legal counsel, and state representatives.
- Tracking client requests and submissions, assisting with record reviews, including tax documents, accounting records, policies, and procedures.
- Performing data analysis to identify potential unclaimed property risks.
- Developing and presenting strategies to clients to mitigate potential unclaimed property exposure.
- Drafting final deliverables and reports for client and state submission.
- Demonstrating critical thinking and the ability to bring order to unstructured problems.
- Using a broad range of tools and techniques to extract insights from current industry or sector trends.
- Reviewing your work and that of others for quality, accuracy, and relevance.
- Seeking and embracing opportunities that provide exposure to different situations, environments, and perspectives.
- Using straightforward communication in a structured way when influencing and connecting with others.
Education and Experience Information:
Required:
- Ability to perform job responsibilities within a hybrid work model that requires US Tax professionals to co-locate in person 2-3 days per week.
- A minimum of 3+ years of experience in state and local tax, with at least 1+ year in Unclaimed Property tax.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- One of the following active accreditations obtained, in process, or willing and able to obtain:
- Licensed CPA in state of practice/primary office if eligible to sit for the CPA exam.
- If not CPA eligible:
- Licensed attorney
- Enrolled Agent
- Certifications such as CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner).
- Ability to travel up to 10% on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve.
Preferred:
- Advanced degree such as Masters of Tax, JD, and/or LLM.
- Previous experience with a Big 4 or large CPA firm.
- Supervisory experience.
Salary Information:
The wage range for this role takes into account various factors considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $68,180 to $144,300.

The role is part of the Multistate Tax Services (MTS) group, which is one of the largest State and Local Tax (SALT) practices in the United States, comprising over 1,000 professionals nationwide. The team includes former state tax auditors and administrators, industry personnel, tax practitioners, accounting specialists, and technology personnel with extensive multistate tax experience. The services provided by the group include state income and franchise tax, indirect tax, unclaimed property, business restructuring, credits and incentives, sales and use tax outsourcing, excise tax, property tax, state strategic tax review, and state tax controversy.
