Summary:

The **Members Only** is seeking a highly motivated individual to join their team as a Deputy General Counsel. This position offers a competitive salary of $110,000 - $130,000, depending on experience, and the opportunity to work remotely from within Arizona. The Deputy General Counsel will be responsible for providing legal advice and services related to the complex state and federal laws governing AHCCCS programs, as well as other legal issues facing state agencies. This is a full-time position with opportunities for career growth and advancement in a nationally acclaimed Medicaid agency.

Responsibilities:

• Perform legal research, provide legal advice, and prepare related legal documents related to AHCCCS programs, including the administration of the public behavioral health delivery system and the protection of the rights of persons with serious mental illness.
• Supervise professional staff, including attorneys and paralegals, and provide support and leadership to ensure success within the Office of the General Counsel.
• Assist with the drafting and negotiation of the Medicaid State plan and section 1115 waiver documents.
• Review proposed state and federal statutes and regulations and advise on potential impacts to the program.
• Provide legal representation to the agency in court and before administrative and regulatory agencies.
• Negotiate and prepare contracts and intergovernmental agreements, ensuring compliance with procurement requirements.
• Supervise the preparation and issuance of Director's Decisions upon receipt of Administrative Law Judge Recommended Decisions.

Requirements:

• Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school and the ability to maintain a current and valid license to practice law in the State of Arizona.
• Knowledge of health care compliance, AHCCCS programs, and state and federal regulations.
• Strong writing and research skills, with the ability to present complex legal positions clearly and logically.
• Experience in health law, Medicare/Medicaid healthcare finance, or representing state or federal agencies is preferred.
