Job Title: Tax Manager, Alternative Investments
Job Responsibilities:
The Tax Manager, Alternative Investments is responsible for providing tax compliance and consulting services to clients in the venture capital, private equity, hedge fund, and real estate sectors. Key responsibilities include:
Tax Compliance:
- Ensuring clients comply with all applicable authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens.
- Ensuring that self and client service teams comply with all company policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual.
- Applying an understanding of client’s unique circumstances, documentation, and legal requirements to prepare required filings (tax returns).
- Ensuring all data needed for filing requirements are collected and identifying any missing items necessary to prepare returns.
- Utilizing company compliance software to maximize efficiency in the tax preparation process.
- Collaborating effectively with Principals, Tax Seniors, and Associates on project completion.
- Delivering high-quality federal, state, and international tax compliance services.
- Leading complex engagements with a team of tax professionals.
- Managing the engagement, including billing, collections, and the budget for projects.
- Building and managing client relationships.
- Documenting client work and conclusions in the client tax file.
Tax Consulting:
- Assisting with identifying, developing, recommending, and implementing efficient and effective tax strategies.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Managing and mentoring teams of Tax Seniors and Associates.
Education and Experience Information:
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree required, with a focus in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics preferred.
- Master’s Degree in Accounting or Taxation preferred.
Experience:
- Five or more years of relevant tax experience and/or experience in public accounting, private industry accounting, or consulting/professional services required.
- Experience in the financial services industry supporting alternative investment funds, including venture capital, private equity, real estate, and hedge funds, preferred.
- Proficiency in the taxation of partnerships preferred.
- Prior supervisory experience required.
License/Certifications:
- CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a . jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (EA) required.
- Possession of other professional degrees or certifications applicable to the role is beneficial.
Software:
- Experience with Microsoft Office Tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat preferred.
- Experience with tax research databases preferred.
- Proficiency in tax compliance process software preferred.
