Job Title: Legal Intern, Summer

Experience: Completed second year of law school and evidence course
Salary: Unpaid, but includes round-trip airfare
Duration: 12 weeks (dates dependent on academic schedule)
Locations: Anchorage, Bethel, Dillingham, Fairbanks, Juneau, Kenai, Ketchikan, Kodiak, Kotzebue, Nome, Palmer, Sitka, Utqiagvik
Responsibilities:
- Represent clients in court, including bail hearings, arraignments, and misdemeanor sentencing
- Assist with evidentiary hearings, trials, and juvenile delinquency hearings
- Negotiate cases and visit clients in jail
- Write motions and assist staff attorneys as needed
- May also work on civil cases, such as child in need of aid, delinquency, and mental health commitment proceedings
Qualifications:
- Completed half of required coursework for law school graduation
- Completed evidence course
- Familiarity with Alaska's student practice rule
Hiring Timeline:
- Hiring begins in September and extends until all positions are filled (usually until March/April)
