Jobtitle: Tax Manager, Specialized Tax Services Partnerships
Job Summary:
As a Tax Manager in the Specialized Tax Services Partnerships, you will play a critical role in advising clients on the tax implications related to their business objectives specifically focusing on partnership taxation. Your responsibilities will include handling section 704(b) and taxable income allocations, capital account maintenance, liability analysis and allocations, as well as section 734(b) and 743(b) adjustment calculations and Tax Receivable Agreement (TRA) calculations. The role requires a deep understanding of potential partnership taxation issues and assisting in the preparation of specific computations related to partnerships. You will be a key member of the leadership team within the STS Partnership Practice, contributing to the development of the group, engaging in process improvement, team-building initiatives, maintaining client relationships, and providing guidance to team members.
Job Responsibilities:
Tax Specialization:
- Develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of technical and practical issues and opportunities concerning partnership taxation.
Research:
- Determine when research is necessary, clearly define issues to be researched, and report findings concisely.
- Identify complex issues that require research by the engagement team and provide a methodology for efficient research.
- Train associates and senior associates on research skills and help frame tax issues for analysis.
- Involve firm specialists as appropriate.
Tax Consulting:
- Assist in developing, recommending, and implementing efficient methods to maximize client benefits by reducing current and future taxes.
- Utilize tax knowledge and business/industry knowledge to recommend solutions.
- Maximize client benefits while managing risk and implementing applicable firm strategies.
- Manage client expectations effectively.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervise associates and senior associates on all projects.
- Review work prepared by associates and senior associates, providing feedback and comments.
- Train associates and senior associates on current software tools.
- Act as a career advisor to associates and senior associates.
- Schedule and manage workload of associates and senior associates.
- Provide verbal and written performance feedback to associates and senior associates.
Education and Experience Information:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree required; a major in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics is preferred.
- A Master’s degree in Accountancy or Taxation is preferred.
Experience:
- Five or more years of relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting, or consulting/professional services experience is required.
- Specialized partnership experience is required.
- Prior supervisory experience is preferred.
- Private equity experience, both at the fund and portfolio company levels, is preferred.
License/Certifications:
- CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a . jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (“EA”) (or equivalent) is preferred.
- Other professional degrees or certifications applicable to the role are preferred.
Software:
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite is preferred.
- Experience with tax research databases and tax compliance process software is preferred.
