Job Title: Deputy District Attorney I-IV
Job Responsibilities:
- Work within the District Attorney’s Office, handling the full range of legal activities involved in the investigation or prosecution of complex criminal and civil cases.
- Prepare and present cases in court, receiving complaints and reviewing reports filed by arresting officers or complainants.
- Interview complainants and witnesses regarding prospective complaints and subpoena witnesses.
- Review or approve and issue complaints in relevant matters.
- Analyze, interpret, and apply laws, court decisions, and other legal authorities in the preparation of cases, opinions, and briefs, and prepare pleadings and other documents related to suits, trials, hearings, and other legal proceedings.
- Examine, assemble, and evaluate evidence; secure and interview witnesses.
- Appear in court and try cases, performing advanced legal research.
- Perform related duties as assigned, with the understanding that duties may vary based on the specific position and the discretion of the District Attorney.
Education and Experience Information:
- Deputy District Attorney I: Must be an active member of the California State Bar and possess a valid operator’s license issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles.
- Deputy District Attorney II: Must be an active member of the California State Bar, possess a valid operator’s license issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles, and have two years of experience as an attorney in the practice of criminal law or comparable legal experience.
- Deputy District Attorney III: Must be an active member of the California State Bar, possess a valid operator’s license issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles, and have three years of experience as an attorney in the practice of criminal law or comparable legal experience.
- Deputy District Attorney IV: Must be an active member of the California State Bar, possess a valid operator’s license issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles, and have five years of experience as an attorney in the practice of criminal law or comparable legal experience.
Salary Information:
- Hourly: -
- Monthly: $7, - $12,
- Annually: $91, - $152,
Special Requirements:
- Must possess a valid operator’s license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles.
- Must successfully complete a pre-employment background investigation.
- May be required to serve as a Disaster Service Worker during a County emergency.
- Must file a Conflict of Interest Statement within thirty (30) days of employment.
Additional Information:
- The position requires legal knowledge, including legal principles and practices, civil, criminal, and constitutional law, and related procedures.
- Must be able to conduct legal research and apply legal knowledge effectively.
