Job Responsibilities
The Corporate Counsel is tasked with overseeing all legal aspects of the company, including managing legal staff, handling litigation, and managing intellectual property. The role involves providing legal support across various internal business groups and collaborating with the management team. Key responsibilities include:
- Providing comprehensive legal services for the business efficiently and competently.
- Offering accurate legal guidance to executive staff on matters impacting the company.
- Conducting research on unique legal issues affecting the organization by identifying relevant statutes, judicial decisions, and codes.
- Managing the defense of all litigation and coordinating related claims.
- Leading a nationwide management group to ensure regulatory safety compliance.
- Reviewing, negotiating, drafting, and revising various commercial contracts, including service agreements, non-disclosure agreements, procurement agreements, and real property transactions like leases.
- Managing and settling disputes related to personal injury, minor tort claims, and contract disputes.
- Handling the intake of contract requests and conducting internal client interviews to understand issues, advising clients on best practices for addressing these issues.
- Developing and maintaining strong business relationships as a key relationship manager for the corporate legal department.
- Keeping the legal department staff informed of material developments and matters in a timely manner, exercising sound business and legal judgment.
- Demonstrating leadership and teamwork skills in a collaborative environment.
- Organizing, directing, and providing legal support in specified areas.
- Completing assignments as directed by management.
- Exercising discretion and maintaining a high degree of confidentiality.
- Performing other job-related duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervising inside and outside counsel and strategizing litigation needs.
- Demonstrating success in leading, empowering, and effectively delegating to a successful team.
Education and Experience
The position requires a Juris Doctorate (.) degree from an accredited law school, passing the California State Bar Examination, and at least eight years of experience, including direct support of senior executives.
Computer Skills
Candidates should possess intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook). Experience with internet/intranet navigation and the ability to use legal research databases such as Lexis and Westlaw is required.
Language Skills
Candidates must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as commercial contracts, vendor/supplier agreements, non-disclosure agreements, procurement agreements, and leases. They should be able to write legal reports and correspondence and effectively present information to and persuade a wide range of audiences.
Reasoning Ability
Candidates should have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with various concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. They must be able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to proactively anticipate requirements and potential challenges are necessary. Additionally, candidates should be able to effectively research and analyze legal information, locate legal authority, and comprehend regulations, statutes, and court decisions.

Salary Information
