Job Overview:
A well-regarded law firm based in San Diego, CA, is seeking a seasoned immigration attorney with a strong background in removal defense and family-based immigration. This role is ideal for an attorney fluent in Spanish and English who is committed to advocating for immigrants and vulnerable populations. The position requires courtroom experience, attention to detail, and leadership in managing legal support staff.

Duties:

  • Communicate promptly with clients, support staff, and external agencies to ensure alignment and transparency

  • Conduct weekly case strategy sessions and provide legal guidance on complex matters

  • Draft, review, and file applications and legal pleadings with EOIR and USCIS

  • Oversee and mentor legal assistants and paralegals, ensuring the accuracy and quality of case submissions

  • Prepare for hearings and client interviews, including compiling necessary evidence and documentation

  • Use legal technology and collaborative tools to streamline workflow and maximize productivity

  • Track and meet performance goals while contributing to broader team metrics

  • Strategize relief options in removal proceedings, including waivers, asylum claims, and special visas (VAWA, U, T)

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years of legal practice focused on immigration removal defense and USCIS representation

  • Fluency in both English and Spanish (spoken and written)

  • Must be licensed to practice law in any . jurisdiction

  • Ability to work from the San Diego/Escondido area as needed and coordinate with remote staff

  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage a full caseload and supervise legal staff

  • Experience with trauma-informed client representation

  • Strong written and verbal advocacy skills

  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), Adobe PDF, and basic case management tools

  • Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and adapt in a high-volume environment

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Active Bar license in good standing from any . state

Skills:

  • Litigation and courtroom advocacy

  • Strategic legal analysis and problem-solving

  • Leadership and team coordination

  • Bilingual communication

  • Legal drafting and document review

  • Compassionate client interaction

  • Familiarity with immigration relief categories, including family-based petitions, waivers, VAWA, and U/T visas
