Manager or Senior Manager, Research and Development Tax Credits (AMCS)
Job Responsibilities:
The primary responsibilities for the position of Manager or Senior Manager in Research and Development Tax Credits include conducting R&D tax credit consulting and project management, and managing R&D tax credit studies and related activities. The role involves developing and maintaining excellent client relationships during the delivery of R&D tax credit services. The candidate will be responsible for providing R&D tax credit quality assurance, engagement review, and exam support. Additionally, the position requires performing engagement management activities such as billing analysis, invoicing, and engagement setup. Drafting opinion letters, responding to IRS inquiries, preparing IRS ruling requests, and writing other technical memoranda are also part of the job responsibilities.
Additional responsibilities for the Senior Manager position include taking an active role in new business development, including securing add-on business. The Senior Manager will also assist other R&D Project Managers with the delivery of engagements as needed, which includes conducting research and writing on technical issues.
Education and Experience Information:
The candidate must have a minimum of five years of recent experience conducting and managing R&D tax credit consulting projects in a large accounting firm, corporation, or law firm. A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required. Candidates must be a licensed CPA, JD/LLM, or have completed an advanced degree or professional certification/designation, such as an MBA, MCM, PHDE, PHE, ME, MSRE, AIA, Enrolled Agent, LEED Certification, PE, or SIX SGMA Certification. Those who do not possess at least one of the approved designations/credentials at the time of employment must obtain one within a year from their date of hire. Solid verbal and written communication skills are essential, along with proficiency in using Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and the internet. Experience managing multiple client engagements and client service teams is required. The candidate should also have technical skills and experience with research and development deduction and credit Internal Revenue Code sections, including but not limited to sections 174 and 41, corresponding regulations, and relevant judicial and administrative authority.
For the Senior Manager position, a minimum of eight years of experience in federal income taxes within a public accounting firm or corporation is required. Experience mentoring and counseling staff-level team members is also necessary.
