Job Title: Law Clerk
Job Responsibilities:
- Conduct client interviews and prepare initial case statements.
- Prepare clients for trials, including obtaining discovery and other evidence.
- Write briefs and other legal memoranda.
- Participate in community outreach and education initiatives.
- Assist self-represented litigants.
- Represent clients at administrative hearings and state court hearings/trials.
- Participate in broader impact litigation.
- Draft writs of mandamus to Superior Court and California appellate court.
- Engage in immigration advocacy for domestic violence and sexual assault survivors, including assisting with VAWA Self-Petitions and U Visa Non-Immigrant Petitions.
Education and Experience Information:
- Completion of the first year of law school is required.
- A passion for social justice and poverty-related issues is essential.
- Sensitivity to working with people from diverse backgrounds is necessary.
- Students who have completed the required Evidence Course are encouraged to become certified by the California State Bar to represent clients in court.
