Job Title: Education Defense Fund Senior Legal Fellow

Job Responsibilities:
The Education Defense Fund Senior Legal Fellow will be engaged in various capacities to support the mission of the Education Defense Fund (EDF) under the **Members Only**. The primary responsibilities include:

- Supporting the Education Strategy Legal Council: The Fellow will leverage their expertise in education and civil rights to enforce student civil rights across the country. This involves ensuring that all components of the EDF are accountable to the needs of affected students and families.
- Gathering and following student and caregiver input to ensure accountability and responsiveness to the needs of affected communities.
- Contributing to the creation of an alumni network of Senior Fellows to support ongoing work and collaboration.
- Advancing the mission of EDF by proposing and executing new projects that align with EDF's goals to protect and advance student civil rights.
- Providing technical assistance and direct support to affected students and families, as well as creating enforcement pathways.

Education and Experience Information:
Eligibility for the EDF Fellowship is specifically targeted at individuals who have recently served as attorneys within the federal government, particularly in roles related to education and civil rights. This includes positions within the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) at the . Department of Education, the Civil Rights Division (CRT), or other relevant parts of the . Department of Justice. Eligible candidates are those who are at a career transition point and have experience in protecting and advancing the civil rights of students through their roles in these federal agencies.

Proposal Requirements:
Candidates interested in the fellowship must submit several documents, including:

- A short statement of interest (250-500 words) explaining their interest in the fellowship and how they plan to contribute to one of EDF's scopes of work.
- A brief response to specific questions regarding their experience in civil rights cases, skills they bring to EDF, and their perspective on risks or challenges to EDF's mission.
- A resume or CV.
- Two references, including a previous supervisor.

Candidates are expected to be in a career transition when applying, and if they secure new employment during the fellowship, EDF will assist in transitioning their work scope. Fellows are encouraged to remain engaged through the Senior Fellow Alumni Network.

Salary Information:
Senior Legal Fellows will receive compensation of $12, per month for their services, with the fellowship lasting up to 6 months.
