Job Title: Fall 2025 Law Clerk

Job Responsibilities:
The **Members Only** (OPD) is seeking law student volunteers for its Juvenile Protection Division to advocate for youth in the justice system. As a law clerk, you will work closely with dedicated Juvenile Defenders, gaining real case experience and developing skills necessary for a career as a criminal defense attorney. Your responsibilities may include:

- Observing Juvenile Court proceedings
- Drafting modification motions
- Locating and interviewing witnesses
- Visiting clients in detention and placements
- Drafting letters and memos
- Assisting with case development both in and out of the courtroom
- Conducting research

Each law clerk is considered an integral part of the defense team and will receive training on child development, best practices, and juvenile system reform. The internship experience is tailored to meet the academic and professional goals of each individual.

Education and Experience Information:
Candidates for the law clerk position should be current law students or recent law school graduates. Applicants are expected to have strong written and oral communication skills, adaptability, and a strong work ethic. Preference is given to those with experience working with juveniles and those who have completed a course in Criminal Procedure.

The application process is centralized, with final selections made by the District Offices. Candidates should indicate their preferred office locations during the application process. It is important to note that only the Montgomery County and Baltimore City offices are accessible via public transportation.

Salary Information:
These positions are unpaid volunteer roles. However, the organization supports externs seeking academic credits for their work and sponsors grant or other outside funding applications, where applicable.

Additional Information:
Law clerk positions are available in the spring (January-May), fall (September-December), and summer (May-August). Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. This is an in-person position, and all law clerks must start by September 2, 2025, working for a minimum of 10 weeks.
