Job Responsibilities:

1. Represent the United States Government in removal proceedings before immigration judges, involving cases such as applicants for asylum or other forms of relief under immigration laws.
2. Provide expert legal counsel on complex immigration and customs laws, requiring comprehensive knowledge of statutory, regulatory, and case authorities.
3. Conduct legal research, prepare pleadings, motions, briefs, stipulations, affidavits, and other legal documents for litigation.
4. Prepare witnesses for litigation, conduct direct and cross-examinations, present oral arguments, negotiate case dispositions, and advise on prosecutorial discretion.
5. Construct litigation reports for the United States Attorney's Offices on civil matters involving ICE and serve as a liaison between the Department of Justice's Office of Immigration Litigation and local enforcement offices.
6. Provide legal advice and support to other ICE components and litigation support to the United States Attorney's Offices in immigration and customs matters.
7. Engage in appellate advocacy before the Board of Immigration Appeals, including preparing briefs and other pleadings.

Education and Experience Information:

1. Applicants must be graduates from an American Bar Association accredited law school with a Juris Doctor (.) degree.
2. Active membership in good standing of the bar of a . state, territory, District of Columbia, or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico is required.
3. For GS-11: Must be a law school graduate and an active bar member in good standing.
4. For GS-12: Must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level.
5. For GS-13: Must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level.
6. For GS-14: Must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level.
7. Specialized experience includes skills in litigating cases, trial advocacy, contact with government witnesses, and proficiency in legal document review and objection handling during trials.

Salary Information:

- The salary range for this position is $63,163 to $138,296 per year, reflecting the General Schedule (GS) base rate. Specific locality pay tables can be accessed for more detailed information.
- Promotion potential is up to GS-14, contingent on performance, need, and administrative approval.
