Job Title: Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney

Job Responsibilities:
The Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney is tasked with performing both professional and administrative duties in the preparation and trial of cases for the Commonwealth's Attorney Office. Key responsibilities include:

- Gathering evidence and preparing cases for trial in various courts including the General District Court (GDC), Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court (JDR), and Circuit Court.
- Prosecuting misdemeanor and felony cases with a focus on vertical prosecution for assigned cases.
- Preparing briefs for appealed cases to be presented to the Court of Appeals and the Virginia Supreme Court.
- Drafting, reviewing, and preparing legal opinions and other legal documents.
- Providing legal advice and counsel to departments to ensure adherence to applicable laws.
- Assisting in community outreach programs to promote legal awareness and education.
- Conducting legal research and addressing inquiries from the public and professionals.
- Performing additional duties as assigned by the Commonwealth Attorney or the Deputy.

Education and Experience:
The position requires the following educational and experiential qualifications:

- A Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the Virginia State Bar with good standing.
- Successful completion of a criminal background and DMV check.
- Possession of a valid Driver's license.
- Knowledge of general and governmental law, including local, state, and federal laws and regulations as well as legal proceedings.
- Considerable skill in maintaining detailed records, conducting research and writing, making presentations, developing court case exhibits, and gathering factual information.
- Ability to organize, interpret, and apply legal principles to complex legal problems.
- Competence in prosecuting a variety of cases and effectively communicating both orally and in writing.
- Strong analytical skills to develop probable justifications and exercise good professional judgment.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with public officials, law enforcement, and the general public.

Salary Information:
The position offers an annual salary ranging from $74, to $90,.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:
The work is primarily conducted in an office setting, typically involving sitting, although some walking, standing, stooping, and carrying of light items may be required. No special physical demands are necessary. The work environment involves everyday risks and discomforts that necessitate standard safety precautions, such as the use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, and observing fire regulations and traffic signals.
