Job Title: Fall 2025 Law Clerk

Job Responsibilities:
The **Members Only** (OPD) offers law clerk positions to current law students, providing them with hands-on experiences in the field of criminal defense. Law clerks are expected to work closely with attorneys, staff, and other members of the trial team to provide zealous and comprehensive defense for OPD clients. The responsibilities of law clerks include:

- Conducting legal research.
- Researching and writing motions and memoranda.
- Engaging in case planning and investigation.
- Coordinating with witnesses.
- Preparing for and participating in trials, hearings, and/or sentencings.

Law clerks are fully integrated into trial teams and work collaboratively with attorneys, investigators, paralegals, social workers, and other support staff to ensure clients receive the best representation possible. The role involves significant research and writing, witness preparation, investigations, and trial preparation.

Education and Experience Information:
The law clerk positions are designed for current law students or recent law school graduates. The OPD seeks candidates who are eager to assist in the client-centered and team-based representation of clients. The application process for law clerk positions is centralized, and candidates have the opportunity to indicate their preferred offices within the State of Maryland. The positions are available during the spring semester (January-May), fall semester (September-December), and summer (May-August).

Candidates must submit the following materials as part of their application:
- Resume
- Cover letter
- List of four professional references
- Writing sample no longer than 15 pages
- Undergraduate transcript

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, but must be completed and submitted no later than August 1, 2025, for the fall 2025 law clerk positions. The positions are in-person, and all students must start the clerkship by September 2, 2025, committing to at least 10 weeks of work.

Salary Information:
The law clerk positions at the **Members Only** are unpaid volunteer positions. However, where applicable, the OPD will support externs seeking academic credits for their work and will sponsor grant or other outside funding applications.
