Insurance Defense Trial Attorney
Job Responsibilities:
As an Insurance Defense Trial Attorney at the company, your primary responsibilities will include representing the company and its policyholders in moderately complex civil litigation matters. These cases typically involve claims for monetary damages or compensation for personal injuries or property damage of moderate value. You will be tasked with managing the entire legal process from investigation and discovery through trial preparation and court proceedings. This role involves representing clients in depositions, site inspections, court hearings, trials, and negotiating settlements as required.
You will also be expected to:
- Develop appropriate legal strategies for all stages of litigation and communicate these strategies with claims representatives and insured clients.
- Establish and maintain productive relationships with claims representatives and insured clients.
- Conduct training sessions for Legal, Claims, or other departments as necessary.
- Develop and render clear, unambiguous legal opinions and strategies.
- Draft legal documents, including pleadings and motions.
- Provide guidance and direction to junior attorneys, paralegals, or law clerks.
- Collaborate with Home Office Legal on various matters.
Education and Experience Information:
To qualify for the position of Insurance Defense Trial Attorney, candidates must meet the following education and experience requirements:
- Hold a Juris Doctor (JD) degree.
- Be a member of the California State Bar.
- Possess appropriate special licenses to practice before boards or federal courts (preferred).
- Have a minimum of six years of successful experience as an attorney with trial experience.
- Demonstrated experience conducting discovery, depositions, oral arguments, mediations, arbitrations, and hearings.
- Experience representing insurance companies is preferred.

Salary Information:
The salary for the Insurance Defense Trial Attorney role at the company is determined by various factors, including skills, experience, education, certifications, and location. The typical starting salary for this position ranges from $150,000 to $170,000 annually. The full salary range for this role is from $119,000 to $210,000 per year, reflecting the competitive labor market value across the national market. Additionally, this role may include eligible performance bonuses and a corresponding compensation plan, which may comprise commission and/or bonus earnings at rates based on multiple factors outlined in the compensation plan for the role.
